John is the founder and a managing director of Covenant Multifamily Offices. In his several leadership roles with Covenant, John serves as the firm’s CEO, chief wealth advisor and leads all client service efforts.

Prior to founding Covenant in 2010, John led Frost National Bank’s Wealth Management Services group from 2004 onward. John spent the first 20 years of his career at Ernst & Young where he last served as the firm’s director of executive planning services. John has lengthy experience assisting families with their investment, income tax, wealth transfer planning, family governance and philanthropic strategies. Throughout his career, John worked with Fortune 500 executives to assess and implement complex compensation strategies—including deferred compensation, restricted stock, stock option, and other employee benefit planning.

John was recently named a Barron’s 2012 Top 100 Independent Financial Advisor. He was also recognized in 2012 as a Five Star Wealth Manager. Earlier in his career, John was named by Worth magazine as one of the Top 100 Wealth Advisors in the country.

John graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Berry College in Rome, Georgia in 1983. He earned his Masters of Accountancy - Tax from the University of Georgia in 1984. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, Personal Financial Specialist (PFS), a Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU®), and a Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA).

John is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the Texas Society of CPAs, the CFA Institute, and the Investment Management Consultants Association. He is also a member of the Fidelity Investments Advisor Council.

Outside of work, John is active in many community activities. He serves on the board of trustees for the San Antonio Museum of Art and is chairman of its finance committee. He serves as a member of the advisory committee for San Antonio Metropolitan Ministries (SAMM). At his church, John serves in many volunteer and leadership roles. He also serves on the board of visitors at Berry College in Rome, Georgia.

John lives in San Antonio with his wife, Beth, and their son, Matt, who is attending Auburn University.
